Sauna

The physical effects of a sauna session are manifold. The skin surface warms up by three to ten degrees, the temperature inside the body rises by one to two degrees. This corresponds to a similar temperature increase as with fever. The body reacts by activating the defence cells. The blood vessels dilate, the heart rate rises by about 50 per cent and the breathing rate increases. The muscles relax.

Biosauna

Temperature: 50-60° Celsius

Humidity: 40-50%

The low temperatures provide a calming effect. The bio sauna can also provide relief for various skin problems. Spending time in another type of sauna is much more strenuous for the human circulation. As a passionate sauna-goer, you also have the opportunity to spend much longer in the bio sauna.

Infrared-Sauna

Temperature: 36° Celsius

Air humidity: 5%

The deep heat generated in the infrared sauna promotes blood circulation and can help with colds, tenseness, problems with the joints or rheumatism. It has an anti-inflammatory effect. Infrared cabins are also used for weight loss. Apart from the pure feel-good effect, sweat rids the body of dead skin cells when you stay in an infrared cabin. This improves the tone and elasticity of the skin, it also helps with skin problems such as eczema, acne and cellulite. 

Steam room

Temperature: 45-55° Celsius

Air humidity: 100%

Because the heat in a steam bath is so great, the body activates various mechanisms to cool down: The blood vessels in the skin dilate, the body produces sweat, and lung activity increases.

The immune system is strengthened, the pores opened and the skin cleansed. The essential oils such as eucalyptus oil increase the moistening of the mucous membranes. 

Particularly after an active day in the Zermatt mountains, a steam bath does wonders: It reduces blood pressure, the stress hormone cortisol decreases, muscles relax, it increases flexibility and the joints strengthen.

Arvenstube

Swiss pine (Pinus cembra), also known as Arolla pine, is a wonderful tree that creates harmony and harbours the healing power of the Alps. The active substances in the Swiss pine’s extremely fragrant wood boost our well-being and have a verifiable positive impact on our health. Swiss pine has antibacterial properties and is good for the heart and breathing. It is also a great mood booster and promotes relaxation and deeper sleep. On one of the four water beds in our Arvenstube (Swiss pine room), you can enjoy absolute quiet and enter a state of deep relaxation. Do both your mind and body a good deed. In the process, you might even dream of the Matterhorn... 

Relaxation room

Now it is time to relax and rest in our relaxation room with a view of the Matterhorn. Wrap yourself in a cuddly bathrobe, feel the cosy feeling in your body and enjoy a fine cup of tea. La vita è bella!

Cooling down

Taking a sauna is healthy and regenerating for the body – but only if you make sure to cool down properly after the sauna. Fresh air and cold water play a considerable role if you want to feel relaxed afterwards, because the actual sauna effect cannot be achieved if you don’t get that little “cold shock”.

In the cool-down area of our wellness hotel, you will find cooling showers and a Kneipp pool as well as an attractively designed, sheltered outdoor area with plunge pool.

Kneipp basin

A warm foot bath after cooling down is recommended. Fill one of our pools ankle-deep with water at a temperature of about 40° C. In this way, the narrowed blood vessels of the body are dilated again and you will feel a pleasant warmth. At the same time, the body is cooled down by removing the heat still remaining inside. The body does not sweat and the cooling down also prevents a cold.

Classical massage

The classical massage serves to release tension, relax the muscles and provide new energy and vitality. During the massage, different hand movements are applied, including kneading, stroking, rubbing, etc. Selective touches, which penetrate deeper into the tissue, help to release harder tensions.

Sports massage

During the sports massage, the focus is on recovery and regeneration after physical exertion and injury prevention. In the sports massage, the hand movements of the classic massage are applied. Here the masseur/masseuse concentrates mainly on the parts of the body that are particularly stressed. Hard muscles and adhesions are stretched to loosen them, while soft and overstrained muscles are treated carefully.

Hot stone massage

The hot stone massage is a form of massage using heated stones that are placed on the body. The stones are heated in a water bath to a temperature of about 60°C. The aim is to relax the muscles through heat.

Head and face massage

A face and head massage awakens the beauty in you. This massage can help against the pain of headaches in a lasting way and without side effects. Energy points of the body converge at the head, face and ears. Very similar to the foot reflex zone massage, blockages can be released and a self-healing process can be stimulated.

Foot reflex massage

The soles of every person’s feet react very sensitively to pressure and touch. Depending on where the sole of the foot is massaged, different energy paths are activated. These have an effect on various parts of the body, improve blood circulation and relieve pain. A foot reflex massage can be used to treat joint pain, spinal disorders, tension, cramps, headaches and migraines, among other things.
