Key handover at the turn of the year

Fabienne Anthamatten, owner of the three-star superior Hotel Bella Vista in Zermatt, has been running the family business for nine years as the third generation of the family. Since this winter, she has had a new hotel manager at her side in Céline Bader. The topic of “grandchild suitability” – in terms of the sustainable concept, but also in terms of sustainable relationships with guests – will remain a focus in the future.

The Hotel Bella Vista is located at Riedweg 15 in Zermatt – cozy, familiar, and inviting. It was founded in 1962 by Fabienne Anthamatten's grandparents. Over generations, the Perren/Götzenberger family has made the hotel a second home for countless regular guests and created a place of relaxation in Zermatt.

This place delights guests today as much as it did back then: with a direct view of the Matterhorn, 21 rooms, an unbeatable breakfast buffet and handmade delicacies, a spacious spa area and a desire to “go back to the roots,” the authentic hotel chalet has established itself as an oasis of well-being.

Fabienne Anthamatten took over the hotel around nine years ago and has since managed it and made a particularly lasting mark on it. With great care and effort, she has optimized economic and ecological aspects in a continuous process, thus creating a sustainable concept. Zero waste is the credo not only in the kitchen, where natural materials are used wherever possible, resources are conserved, food is prepared in-house instead of bought, and locality and regionality are emphasized.

Fabienne, who grew up in her parents' hotel as a child, has had a special connection to nature from an early age. She loves spending time outdoors with her husband, her 5-year-old son, and her 3-year-old daughter—and this appreciation for nature is reflected in Bella Vista.

In recent years, the owner has continuously modernized the hotel. The rooms have been renovated, and the expansion of the wellness area was her thesis project at hotel management school. The hotel has earned its superior rating and achieved a contemporary standard: “We have created a place of relaxation,” says Fabienne.

Far away from Bahnhofstrasse and yet at the heart of the village, the Bella Vista is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. It is particularly long-term guests and regulars who have discovered the place for themselves and grown to love it. In the future, the Bella Vista will remain a place of relaxation in nature, where guests can enjoy a harmonious break in a warm atmosphere.

2026 - a new chapter in the Bella Vista story

After nine years, Fabienne decided last summer to hand over the management of the hotel.

Fabienne Anthamatten's decision to take this step was based on personal reasons: “Balancing family and work was an important factor. The fact that my husband is also very committed to his job reinforced my decision to reduce my hours at the hotel.”

Fabienne thought long and hard about what the best solution for the hotel and herself might be. In the end, she took the advice of a close friend to heart – namely, to hand over the job of manager to someone else entirely.

A matter close to both parties' hearts

Fabienne found that person: Céline Bader started her job as hotel manager at Bella Vista in November.

The decision was quickly clear to them: "Céline is open and warm—just like our hotel. Her attitude and approach to sustainability are in line with our vision. Her motivation already shows that Bella Vista is a labor of love and that she is the right person for the job. I was 100% convinced by this feeling and trust – and this has been confirmed over the past few weeks."

For Céline, the new position at Bella Vista is also a new challenge. She previously worked as a marketing specialist for Grächen Tourism and Air Zermatt AG, among others. She has been living in Zermatt for four years. "I am very motivated to take on my new role. The hotel exudes such hospitality and warmth – I want to convey this feeling to our guests in the future. I am delighted to now be able to help shape this special place."

Both of them believe the hotel has enormous potential. Although it has clearly positioned itself and the course has been set, there are still numerous ideas and projects for the new year. Céline sees this as a great opportunity to develop her skills at the hotel: “I was given a lot of leeway right from the start. That gives me additional motivation to tackle new things.”

The last few weeks at the hotel have been intense, especially over the holidays. Céline takes a positive view: “The aim was to offer guests the best possible stay during the peak season. Although every employee had to find their feet in their new role and everyone had to come together as a team, we succeeded and we are all pulling in the same direction—that makes me very happy.”

Fabienne will not disappear from the scene entirely: "I love to optimize, to take a critical look at the hotel and question which measures make sense and what can be improved.  That's why I will continue to be responsible for infrastructural development and construction management during renovations, so that the hotel remains in perfect condition in terms of maintenance.

You will also encounter Fabienne in the hotel – sometimes for a coffee on the terrace or for a chat at the breakfast buffet. “I know the guests and the team and would like to continue to accompany these people – albeit in a slightly different way now.”
